MyStatus Downtime Incidents

The promise: A task to track every time we cause MyStatus to go down. The hope: It will track every time it goes down due to forces outside ours (but we need to add tooling to get there).

Posted as it happens.

Back up, about ten minutes all told. We changed a database function that every public page reads, and shipped it ahead of the web app that reads it — so the page went looking for a field that had just stopped existing. A compatibility shim put the field back and the pages returned immediately. The real fix isn't the shim. "No app is live yet" was true of the phone apps and flat wrong about the website, and nobody caught it because there was nowhere to go and check. So there's a file now listing what's actually deployed and what reads it, and it gets updated in the same commit as anything that changes either.

Every public MyStatus page is throwing a 500 right now. Task pages, permalinks, feeds, all of it. Nobody can read anything. Looking into it.
